We are proud to announce that Pessl Instruments will be a partner in the ImPACT (Improving Productivity in Agriculture through Climate-Smart Technology) project in the Phillipines. By introducing the METOS system to smallholder rice farmers, we hope to lay the groundwork towards an overall improvement in food security in the Phillipines.
Excerpt from the brochure:
The global population is expected to increase by two billion in 2050. Crucial to this population rise is food security, especially in develop ing countries, and mitigating the impact of climate change on agriculture production has become a collective priority.
Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), as defined by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, is an approach that helps guide actions needed to transform and reorient agricultural systems to effectively support development and ensure food security in a changing climate. Over 90 percent of the world’s 570 million farms, which produce most of the planet’s food, are smallholder farms or farms two hectares or less in size. Unfortunately, most technologies and opportunities to advance climate resilience and improve agricultural productivity are not widely accessible to smallholder farmers.
Pessl Instruments GmbH (Pessl), an Austrian AgTech company, aims to improve the climate resilience of smallholder Filipino farmers through this project. Pessl will deploy proprietary technology that will enable farmers to adopt Climate-Smart Agriculture in their daily farming activities. The Pessl-manufactured METOS range of devices autonomously measure and transmit environmental data, which is processed and delivered to farmers in the form of actionable climate-smart guidance.
